Hi there! My name is José and I'm a native Spanish speaker from Mexico. English aside, I've studied foreign languages for nearly 20 years. I've been a contributor at Duolingo and obtained C level certificates in English, French and German, as well as the HSK 4 (Mandarin Chinese). I consider my approach to be well balanced. I don't rely too much on grammar and exercises, but neither do I think that all beginners have to do is talk and the rest will come naturally to them. In my classes we cover both sides of the equation.
We can work on any aspect you'd like to focus on, or cover all four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing). I can also teach you grammar at an advanced level and prepare you for the DELE exam (from A1 to C2, which basically means you can use Spanish for academic purposes).
Also, immersion is done at the student's request. I don't agree that complete immersion is the best way for everyone to learn a language, just as I don't think that throwing children to a pool will make them all learn faster (or have a nice experience for that matter). We can have 100% immersion if you want, but don't hesitate to ask me to teach, explain or draw comparisons in your own languague. You'll be surprised how many things all languages have in common! (Ever heard of Chomsky's idea of a universal grammar?)
