The course I took with Santiago while abroad in Bueno Aires was Hispanic Literature. I learned so much about both the language and the style of literature common in Latin America. Since literature is a focus of Santiago’s studies as well as my own, his passion for studying and interpreting the texts we read rubbed off on my interest in the area. His own understanding and experience of learning a second language influenced the patience he had for all of his students when learning a second language. While learning to speak a second language is a challenge of its own, reading in one can be even harder. Santiago helped me and my class overcome this obstacle and be able to engage with texts the same way we could if we were reading a text in our first language. I am so grateful to have had him as a professor since he exposed me to a new world of literature I never thought I’d be able to access. He broke down the barriers of language and taught me to engage in discussions of literature the way I love to do in my own country. His classes exceed expectations and give you plenty of knowledge and skills to take away from it.
