I'm a native English speaker who recently relocated to Madrid after finishing my masters. I have over a year experience teaching conversational English to foreign speakers and am looking to continue my work in this area during my stay here.

To perfect one's conversational skills in a foreign language it's very important to speak it without being able to resort to one's mother tongue. I have a beginner's level of Spanish but I never speak it in my classes because I believe it's essential for the student to be able to describe the word or phrase they are looking for without the 'easy' option of saying it in Spanish.
I also believe doing writing exercises is a great way to improve, I tend to send a writing exercise every class that I'd correct in the time between classes and we'd go through in the next class to see what the mistakes are. It's essential to be able to correctly write things from informal letters to opinion essays and it's important to review one's work and learn from one's mistakes.
